Missouri’s Former Mayor Sentenced for Identity Theft and Embezzlement of Drivers’ Funds

Corey Hendrickson, the former mayor of Willard, Missouri, was sentenced to three years in federal prison for identity theft and embezzlement on August 26, 2024. He admitted to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft due to his actions while working at Prime Inc., a trucking company in Springfield.

Hendrickson stole nearly $300,000 from Prime Inc. between 2016 and 2021. He used his job as a fleet dispatcher to access drivers’ personal information and took money from their fuel accounts. Over 500 people were affected by his theft.

Along with his prison term, Hendrickson must pay $298,737 in restitution to his victims. He must report to prison on the stated date or else he could face a longer sentence.

Hendrickson was mayor of Willard from 2015 to 2021 and an alderman from 2022 until he resigned the day he pleaded guilty. His actions have raised concerns about trust in public officials and how some people in power misuse their positions for personal gain.

The Willard community is shocked by Hendrickson’s crime. Many residents are surprised that a former mayor could commit such acts. Local leaders stress the importance of accountability and transparency to rebuild trust in the government.
