Toyota Is Pumping $1.45 Billion Into Mexico To Boost Tacoma Production

Toyota is putting a whopping $1.45 billion into its operations in Mexico. They’re looking to ramp up the production of their popular Tacoma pickup trucks and even launching a new line of hybrid electric Tacomas.

Toyota is splitting this investment between two main locations in Mexico. First up is Apaseo el Grande in the state of Guanajuato, which is already a major spot for car manufacturing. They’re pouring $1.1 billion into this plant, which will create around 450 new jobs. Right now, this factory employs about 1,700 people and churns out roughly 100,000 Tacomas each year that get sent over to the U.S. It’s a solid boost for the local economy and should help Toyota meet the growing demand for their trucks.

Then there’s Tijuana, right across from San Diego. Toyota is investing another $336 million there, which will add about 1,200 jobs to the plant, which already has 2,000 workers and makes about 130,000 Tacomas annually for the U.S. market. This expansion means more trucks are rolling out and more opportunities are available for people in the area. Plus, with the new hybrid models, Toyota is stepping up its game in the eco-friendly vehicle market, which is a smart move given how much people care about the environment these days.

Luis Lozano, the president of Toyota Mexico, mentioned that this brings Toyota’s total investment in the country to over $3 billion. He emphasized how important Mexico is for Toyota’s competitiveness in North America.

On the government side, Mexico’s Economy Minister, Marcelo Ebrard highlighted that Toyota is one of their key partners and that their investment shows a strong future for both the company and Mexico’s economy. Ebrard also pointed out that the current administration under President Claudia Sheinbaum is attracting more investments and creating quality jobs.

All in all, this massive investment by Toyota is a big deal for Mexico’s manufacturing sector and for Toyota’s market strategy in North America. More trucks, more jobs, and a push towards greener vehicles are all positive steps.
