Trucking Made Easier: Georgia Ports Introduces App for Real-Time Terminal Info

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has launched a brand-new mobile app designed to make life easier for truck drivers and speed up supply chain operations at the Port of Savannah.

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has launched a brand-new mobile app

According to a press release from May 22, the goal is simple: help truckers move faster and smoother through the port by giving them better access to the information about terminals—right from their phones.

Here’s what the app brings to the table:

  • Time-Saving Features: Truckers can now avoid unnecessary delays thanks to simplified paperwork and real-time updates.
  • Live Notifications: Get instant alerts for things like gate hour changes, helping drivers better plan their day.
  • Improved PIN Tracking: The app now makes it easier to track container movements through an enhanced PIN process.
  • Nearest Gate Info: Drivers can quickly find out which terminal gate is closest, saving even more time on the road.
  • Coming Soon: Future updates will include navigation help through Waze or Apple Maps, guiding drivers directly to where their containers are located on the terminal.

Why this matters:

Helping truckers avoid delays and stay informed doesn’t just make their jobs easier—it boosts overall supply chain speed and efficiency. GPA’s CEO Griff Lynch put it best: solving problems before truckers even get to the port helps everyone involved, including shippers.

Here’s a quick stat:
A single container pickup at Garden City Terminal averages 35 minutes, while handling two containers takes roughly 53 minutes. Thanks to this improved efficiency, many drivers can now complete 6–8 turns a day and still get home for dinner.

And when things move faster at the port, it also helps cargo owners reduce their inventory holding costs—a win-win across the board.

One thing to keep in mind:

This is a good start, but mobile app use at ports is still picking up. Experts like Paul Brashier from ITS Logistics mention that high costs and security concerns are slowing things down a bit. Still, post-COVID, there’s been a noticeable rise in investment to make tech like this more common.

At Lading Logistics, we support smart tools that make trucking faster and supply chains smoother.
