Kalmar Ottawa Unveils Third-Generation Electric Terminal Tractor at TMC 2025

The future of terminal trucking just got a whole lot greener! Kalmar Ottawa has officially launched its latest innovation, the OT2 EV Electric Terminal Tractor, marking the third generation of its electric lineup. The announcement was made at the Technology & Maintenance Council’s (TMC) 2025 Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition, where industry leaders gathered to witness the latest in transportation technology.

A Smarter, More Efficient EV

Designed and built entirely in-house at Kalmar’s Ottawa, Kansas facility, the OT2 EV is a game-changer in the electric terminal tractor space. The OT2 EV features a direct-drive traction motor connected to the rear axle instead of a traditional transmission. This design improves efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, and enhances overall performance based on insights gained from previous models.

A Smarter, More Efficient EV

With a growing push for zero-emission solutions, the OT2 EV is a response to industry-wide efforts to reduce diesel emissions. Streich pointed out a major bonus for operators: reduced fatigue.

The OT2 EV is built for tough conditions, with a Thermal Management System allowing it to operate smoothly in extreme temperatures ranging from -22°F to 122°F. That means whether it’s freezing cold or scorching hot, this electric workhorse is ready to roll.

Fast Charging & Modular Battery Options

OT2 EV supports fast charging up to 150kW. Operators can fully charge in under an hour. Plus, customers can choose from three different lithium-ion battery capacities to best fit their needs.

The launch of the OT2 EV comes at a critical time, as states like California ramp up incentives for zero-emission vehicles. Programs like WAIRE (Warehouse Actions and Investments to Reduce Emissions) are encouraging businesses to switch to electric.
