GenLogs is working on a new and possibly revolutionary initiative designed to help the freight industry recover stolen or missing equipment. This is something the freight industry has been needing for ages.
The trucking world deals with a ridiculous amount of theft and fraud, with the industry losing a jaw-dropping $800 million every year. GenLogs has stepped up with a solution that’s practical, tech-savvy, and, completely free.
They’ve launched a new investigative service that helps truckers, carriers, brokers, and shippers recover stolen or missing equipment. All they have to do is report the missing item, and GenLogs takes it from there. With the help of roadside sensors spread across the country like a network of electronic eyes, it’s possible to pinpoint where the equipment was last spotted. If something goes missing, GenLogs not only tracks it down but also sets up real-time alerts to monitor its movements.
Ryan Joyce, the man behind this innovative technology, is a former CIA operations officer. According to him, back in his CIA days, he used drones and surveillance tech to locate individuals in massive countries. He’s taken counterterrorism techniques and repurposed them for tracking trucks and trailers. Now, he’s using similar methods to find one stolen truck among 10 million in the U.S. And he’s doing it all to protect the livelihoods of drivers. Joyce made it clear: if a trucker’s rig gets stolen, the last thing they need is another bill to worry about.
The tech itself is fascinating. GenLogs uses sensors and cameras set up at facilities and strategic locations. These devices collect data on vehicles while respecting privacy—no driver details are involved, just the trucks and trailers. Over the past four months, they’ve already recovered more than 400 stolen or misused trailers. That’s not just a small dent; that’s a whole wave of change.
Big names like Werner Enterprises are raving about it. Ben Murphy, Werner’s vice president of maintenance and equipment, said this tech makes finding a “needle in a haystack” possible, saving time and resources. Another expert, Don Everhart from Transflo, even predicted that in five years, freight brokers will either be using GenLogs or struggling to survive without it.
The cherry on top: this service is completely free. GenLogs sees it as a way to build trust and cooperation in an industry that badly needs both. It’s about giving everyone in the freight world—small truckers, big carriers, and brokers alike—a fair shot at staying secure.
