OceanX Joins Cart.com: What This Means for E-Commerce Growth

Cart.com, an e-commerce logistics company based in Houston, has taken an important step by acquiring OceanX, a fulfillment provider for beauty and wellness brands. This move adds two large warehouses to Cart.com’s growing network—one in California and another in Ohio. Together, these facilities add over 600,000 square feet of space to Cart.com’s operations. With this addition, Cart.com now has 17 fulfillment centers across the United States, covering nearly 10 million square feet.

OceanX, founded in 2016 and headquartered in El Segundo, California, was previously the fulfillment arm of Guthy-Renker, a well-known company in direct-response marketing. OceanX has been working with popular brands such as Meaningful Beauty, Smileactives, and The Body Firm. While Cart.com has mainly focused on products like apparel, shoes, and life sciences, this acquisition opens doors for the company to expand into health and beauty.

The acquisition also gives Cart.com access to new tools and markets. For example, the company’s software allows businesses to sell on different platforms like Amazon, Walmart, and even TikTok. However, a recent court decision upholding a potential TikTok ban in the U.S. could create challenges for e-commerce businesses. Simpson mentioned that Cart.com is prepared to help its clients adapt.

The deal also brings about 200 OceanX employees to the Cart.com team. This increases the company’s total staff to more than 1,600 people. The new facilities play a key role in improving Cart.com’s services. The California warehouse strengthens its presence on the West Coast, while the Ohio facility improves operations in the Midwest.

With these new locations, Cart.com can deliver orders faster, often within just one day. Cart.com President Ilias Simpson called this deal a perfect match, highlighting how both companies complement each other. He explained that OceanX’s experience in beauty and wellness fits well with Cart.com’s plans to expand into this area.

Cart.com, founded in 2020, provides e-commerce businesses with all-in-one solutions. This includes logistics and fulfillment services, software for managing sales, and final-mile delivery. The company has been growing rapidly and has completed nine acquisitions since 2021.

According to Simpson, the additional facilities are a big advantage. They make it easier for Cart.com to reach customers across the United States quickly and efficiently. Faster delivery times are a huge benefit for the company’s clients, helping them meet the expectations of today’s online shoppers.

The timing of this acquisition is ideal. U.S. e-commerce sales from January to September 2024 reached $868 billion, a 6% increase from the same period last year.

For brands that want to grow and reach more customers, Cart.com is proving to be a strong ally. As e-commerce continues to evolve, Cart.com is well-prepared to keep growing and helping others do the same.
